Project background

Council has received $500,000 under the Vibrant Streets PackagePermit/Plug/Play Pilot Program, to identify event-ready streets and deliver long-term cost reductions by streamlining approval processes for temporary road closures.

As part of this project, Council will engage with key stakeholders to investigate the feasibility of each site for street-based events and understand current barriers to hosting events at these sites.

Feedback will be used to improve:

  • Council approval policies and permits
  • Event application processes
  • The prioritisation of capital equipment requirements that will aid street-based events or activations.

Proposed event sites

The following areas have been identified as suitable for on-street events:

  • Formosa Street, Drummoyne - from the Formosa Street Shared Space down to Bowman Street
  • Jellicoe Street, Concord - from Peter Woods Place down to Gallipoli Lane
Council has spoken to local businesses and community groups to understand current barriers to hosting events at these sites, and feedback is being used to:
  • Develop standard traffic management plans to ensure safe use of the space and minimise traffic and parking impacts
  • Streamline the application process to make it simpler and easier for community groups and/or businesses to apply to hold events
  • Reduce costs associated with holding on-street events
  • Improve event storage options adjacent to the Formosa Street space
