Background

Council is proposing to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers in three different sites to support the uptake of EVs in our area. Potential sites have been identified at the following locations, in line with Council's EV Charging Strategy and Action Plan:

  • Brewer Street car park, Concord
  • Five Dock Leisure Centre car park, Five Dock
  • Formosa Street car park, Drummoyne

Chargers would be installed for up to 5 years and Council will then negotiate a new lease term.

Learn more about what's being proposed and provide your feedback by Monday 20 May 2024. We're seeking feedback on the proposed locations, as well as potential charging times and associated parking arrangements. The specific chargers that will be installed, as well as cost and charging speed, will be determined in consultation with the chosen provider.

Proposed installation locations

These sites have been selected to locate chargers close to cafes, shops and services where people doing daily errands in the local area can wait for their cars to charge. This may increase visitation to local services and businesses.

The location of the proposed chargers within the car parks has been based on factors such as site constraints and being close to existing electricity infrastructure that the chargers will need to connect to.

The installation of an EV charger at each of these sites would require two parking spaces to be designated as EV charging spaces.

Brewer St car park

It is proposed to install two electric vehicle charging spaces in the Brewer Street car park and restrict these spaces to '2P Electric Vehicle Only While Charging'.

This would mean only EV's can park in these spaces. A 2 hour limit is consistent with surrounding general parking spaces but would apply 24/7, preventing vehicles from parking for extended periods.

Five Dock Leisure Centre car park

It is proposed to install two electric vehicle charging spaces in the Five Dock Leisure Centre car park and restrict these spaces to '3P Electric Vehicle Only While Charging'.

This would mean only EVs can park in these spaces. A 3 hour limit is consistent with surrounding general parking spaces but would apply 24/7, preventing vehicles from parking for extended periods.

Formosa St car park

It is proposed to install two electric vehicle charging spaces in the Formosa Street car park and restrict these spaces to '1P Electric Vehicle Only While Charging'.

This would mean only EVs can park in these spaces. A 1 hour limit is consistent with surrounding general parking spaces but would apply 24/7, preventing vehicles from parking for extended periods.
