Bayview Park Baths community open day

In November we celebrated the reopening of Bayview Park Baths. The official opening on Friday, 11 November was followed by a community open day on Sunday, 13 November. Here are some special moments from the opening:

Swimming at Bayview Park

Project details

Thanks to $700,000 of funding from the NSW Government's Places to Swim Program, the City of Canada Bay is planning to re-establish a swim site at Bayview Park after the previous swim site was closed in 1969. After the Bayview Baths first closed in 1969, the baths were demolished in about 1995. They appear to have been built in the late 1950s, replacing an earlier trapezoidal enclosure. You can see more historical images of the swim site below.

In partnership with the Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG), we are working to make Parramatta River swimmable again, and this swim site will enable our community to enjoy and experience swimming in a safe environment.

A swimming safety net will allow people to swim in a safe environment. We are also planning to install an outdoor shower.

With Sydney Water, we have been assessing the site and testing the water quality. These tests are ongoing and updates will be provided on this page. For more information, you can review the site feasibility study in the document library and here.

Other background documents include the Our Living River Background Research, and PRCG's masterplan swim site dashboard.

What exactly is being delivered?

The project is proposing:

  • A swimming safety net set away from the jetty
  • An outdoor shower

How you can give feedback:

The below survey is seeking your input on the proposal, what issues or concerns you have, how likely you would be to use the swimming area once it is installed, and what Council could do to increase the likelihood of swimming.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we aren't able to host a drop-in on site, however we held a virtual drop-in session on Wednesday 16 September 2020 from 6-7PM with the project team.

How we will keep the community updated?

Throughout this project, we will keep the community informed, will listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations and provide feedback on how public input influenced our decisions moving forward.
